The beach has beautiful sunrises if you are an early riser. You can refer to my previous blog post for some breakfast recommendations. There are 44 beach accesses. For calmer water the very north and very south ends where they curve around to the inlet do not have the waves that the rest of the middle does. Always be mindful of what flag is up at the lifeguard stand, if it is Red or Purple, be very careful, the riptide is serious and should not be ignored. Parking is free before 9am, and you can check the Town Of Wrightsville Beach Pivot Parking website to see where there are spots available, it can fill up fast.

Bring a cooler with a picnic lunch or there are plenty of beach side restaurants. Refer to my next blog post for lunch and dinner options. Consider some fun beach games like Spikeball, Water Proof Cards, or a water proof football to pass the time while enjoying the surf and sand.

For sunset, head to the western sound side of the island where the sun dips below the Intracoastal Waterway. Some of the best spots include the South End (near Access #43 and #44) or Johnnie Mercer's Pier. The top-rated locations on the island for catching an unobstructed evening glow include The South End (Beach Access #43 & #44), A favorite among locals. The sandy shores and rock jetty here at the tip of the island offer sweeping, panoramic views across the water as the sky changes colors. Johnnie Mercer's Fishing Pier is another good option. Extending 1,200 feet out into the water, this concrete pier provides beautiful, unobstructed vistas of the island landscape and the surrounding coastal waters. You could also pair your sunset with coastal cuisine and drinks at Oceanic Restaurant (which has seasonal covered dining out on the Crystal Pier) or Dockside Restaurant across the waterway.
